Then an off-the-beaten-path tour will be just right for you, offering you unique and hidden insights into the diverse beauty of Madeira that you won’t forget – we promise.
There are different hikes to choose from, with different levels of intensity, so you can individually select
the one that suits you best. For all hikes, normal to good physical fitness is required, because as already described, we will discover Madeira off the beaten track.
This coastal hike leads in the northeast of the island from the beautiful village of Porto da Cruz along the Espigão Amarelo ridge above the Vereda do Larano hike, very well known for its views. The technically demanding hike along the ridge offers spectacular views of the wild ocean, the rugged cliffs of the north coast and a very special view of the eastern peninsula Ponta de São Lourenço.
The ridge walk along Pico do Alto is one of the most spectacular adventures on the north coast of the island. Here, many a hiker’s heads for heights is put to the test, while at the same time offering incredible views of Sao Jorge on one side of the mountain and Boaventura on the other. In the background juts out the mountains of the island – an unforgettable combination of sea, mountains and the intensity of the path.
The hike to the hidden and unique Poço das Pulgas waterfall in the mountains in the north of the island goes through a jungle-like forest that will make you think you are in another world. At the end, we will visit a
lookout point (Rocha do Pombo) that offers a view over the coastal village of Ponta Delgada. The route has steep inclines and slippery sections in some parts, which makes it technically demanding.
The hike leads to a hidden and beautiful valley in the center of Madeira. Along an aging Levada, it takes us through a picturesque area that offers breathtaking views of the valley and Madeira’s highest mountains. Since this Levada is partly not maintained anymore, short but steep and unsecured sections are possible.
A moderate hike in the mystical forest of Fanal and its surrounding forests allows us to immerse ourselves in the special atmosphere of this region, far away from the crowded and tourist spots. Besides the famous centuries-old laurel trees, other spectacular views and levadas are waiting for us.
